FAQ
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that the Association Board Members are asked.
Does Avalon Shores have a homeowner's association (HOA)?
No. Avalon Shores community property is maintained by the Avalon Shores Civic Association. Therefore, our authority generally only extends so far as Association owned property and maintaining road surfaces not owned by the county. That is to say, we do not tell people what color their house needs to be.
Is there an annual fee that needs to be paid in Avalon Shores and how do I pay it?
As a Maryland Special Community Benefit District (SCBD), an annual tax is collected (currently $135/year) when paying your taxes. Do not worry about “making a payment,” the government collects it and disburses it to the Association so long as our finances are in good standing.
Are Board Members paid to be on the Board?
No. All positions on the Board of Directors are volunteer positions.
Are dogs required to be on a leash at the parks?
For sanitary and health reasons, dogs are not permitted in the beach playground area. However, dogs are allowed on the ball field, provided they are on a leash and under the owner’s full control at all times.
This is in accordance with the Anne Arundel County Code, Article 12, Title 4, which requires that all dogs be leashed and properly restrained when off the owner’s property.
Do I need a permit to [fill in the blank]?
The Anne Arundel County website has a great project list so you can find out if you need a permit with the county or not: https://www.aacounty.org/inspections-and-permits/permits/do-i-need-permit.
